SEIU members for Democracy consists of a coalition of SEIU members who joined together in early 2008 to support a democratic reform platform at the SEIU International Convention in Puerto Rico.
The more we connected with other SEIU members across the country, the more we realized that members everywhere were concerned about the direction of their union. Reformists needed an open portal for communication on the Web so we could share our reform stories and Democracy4SEIU was developed.
Are we anti-union? Absolutely not.
We are committed to strong, democratic unions, empowered members, self-governance, and true, old style solidarity.
To connect members working for reform within SEIU, creating a united voice and shared experience, so we can reclaim our unions and return them to the ethical control of rank and file members.
We support the valient efforts of those listed on our reform links page.
SEIU Members for Democracy connects and advocates for rank and file members. We include links to reform sites from across the United States and Canada, to labor reporters, and other labor advocacy groups, and who share concerns about the direction of the American labor movement.
We believe rank and file members ARE the union.
SEIU Members for Democracy is a grassroots effort.
